PUSH’s main achievement in scaling up energy efficiency retrofits in Buffalo, is Green Jobs – Green New York, an innovative law drafted in partnership with the Center for Working Families in NYC.
The Green Jobs – Green New York program is the most ambitious of its kind in the nation. To help the state reach their energy efficiency goals, PUSH, and 18 other community based organizations, will work as an independent contractor for NYSERDA – New York State Energy Research Development Authority – to create living-wage jobs for local residents and to help homeowners reduce their high energy bills.
In 2012, PUSH Buffalo founded PUSH Green, a non-profit weatherization and energy efficiency program whose goal is to expand the demand for energy-efficient housing upgrades across Western New York while bolstering employment opportunities in the green jobs field.
Over the last three years, PUSH worked with NYSERDA, the Center for Working Families and dozens of other key stakeholders to design the Green Jobs – Green New York Blueprint and legislation.
Green Jobs - Green New York provides New Yorkers with access to free comprehensive home energy assessments, installation services and low-cost financing. Over the next two years, the program will deliver these services in targeted communities with the support of constituency based organizations, like PUSH, who will recruit residential, small businesses, non-profits, and multifamily building owners into the state's new energy efficiency program.
PUSH Buffalo’s community-based, energy efficiency initiative, PUSH Green, will implement the Green Jobs - Green New York program in Erie County. To help the State reach their energy efficiency goals, PUSH Green will work as an independent outreach contractor for NYSERDA to create living-wage jobs for Erie County homeowners while helping them reduce their energy bills and usage.
