PUSH Buffalo, The WASH Project, and Ujima Theater will be co-hosting a free, family-friendly community celebration to commemorate the launch of the new Solar Program at the Massachusetts Avenue Park on July 11, 2015 from 12 PM to 5 PM with a kick-off ceremony featuring Ruben Brown from the Buffalo Bills at 1 PM .
The launch party will also serve as an opportunity for people interested in solar to get a guided-tour of PUSH Buffalo’s Winter Street project houses that have solar arrays installed. Solar Liberty will be on hand to answer any questions about solar installations. Food will be supplied by vendors from the West Side Bazaar and there will be a solar powered smoothie machine, bounce house, and chalk art.
There will be music from DJ Milk and the Buffalo Afro beat Orchestra (BAO) – performing the music of Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti, and Tony Allen – the three kings of Afrobeat. There will also be skate rentals provided by Turnaround Skates as they debut a new skate truck –providing skates for youths and adults. The cost of renting skates is $2 for youths 12 and under with parental supervision, $5 for everyone 13 years and older. Personal helmets are highly recommended.
The solar program, funded by NYSERDA, will allow for PUSH Buffalo’s energy efficiency program, PUSH Green, to begin getting qualified homeowners to have solar panels installed on their homes. This program is new to PUSH Buffalo in 2015. For more information on the launch party or program, you can contact Rahwa Ghirmatzion at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 716-882-2672.
