On June 28th and 29th, 2011, PUSH Buffalo was one of the presenters at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regional office's "Delivering Together" conference in Syracuse, NY. HUD's regional office in Buffalo brings together community development partners across the region it serves--much of upstate New York--each year for this conference. The goal of the conference is to foster better approaches towards community development.
PUSH represented well at the regional HUD conference. Terry Richard and Whitney Yax of PUSH Buffalo sat on a panel for a Community Engagement Strategies workshop. They were invited by regional HUD CPD Director Bill O'Connell because of PUSH's track record for successful community planning in our neighborhood. Terry and Whitney shared with conference attendees what PUSH Buffalo has learned about what works based on the ideas of "community control of resources" and "we know what we need where we live." They also had the chance to present to the entire conference about PUSH Buffalo's Green Development Zone model.
HUD regionally now has an eye on what successful community planning can look like because they're consulting with PUSH!
