Pine Harbor tenants fight back against being pushed out of their homes by New York City-based Related Companies and their billionaire owner Stephen A. Ross
What: Rally and press conference.
Tenants at Pine Harbor apartments, located on the lower West Side of Buffalo, have been suffering from neglect for generations. Ownership and management have changed over time but what has remained consistent is the neglect, intimidation, and oppression that tenants have experienced. Residents of Pine Harbor have been subjected to water leaks, rodent and bed bug infestations, overcharging, boots on their cars, and other conditions that violate the warranty of habitability. Residents have had enough and are fighting back for their dignity and ability to stay in their homes. After watching the displacement of hundreds of Shoreline residents, people living in the Pine Harbor apartments, which sit adjacent to the Shoreline campus, can see the writing on the wall. They fear Stephen A. Ross, multi-billionaire owner of New York City-based real estate development corporation Related Companies, will push current low-income tenants out of their homes. This is a story across the state as groups fight for a #NYHomesGuarantee that would protect tenants like those at Pine Harbor.
